Earlier this month, more than 500 people joined the Teach For America (TFA) movement by attending the 2nd Annual Teach For America D.C. Region Gala: Leadership Changing Lives at the Ritz-Carlton. The Webster Group was thrilled to assist Teach For America in planning and producing the 2011 and 2012 D.C. Region Galas.
Highlights of the evening included customized TFA Hershey’s Kisses sprinkled on all 55 tables, an enchanting performance by a local elementary school choir and sporadic Washington Caps score updates (from the 5/9 playoff game). After dinner, guests explored a lavish dessert buffet consisting of gelato cones and hot fudge sundaes with all the fixins. Finally, as guests departed, corps members and TWG team members lined the Ritz staircase and presented guests with personalized TFA yoga mats and invited them to “join the movement!”
The gala raised more than $1 million for TFA’s D.C. Region and was a triumph on many levels. Guests enjoyed the opportunity to speak with TFA corps members and alumni as they watched an inspiring program unfold on the ballroom stage. Speakers such as U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, and Senator Michael Bennet celebrated the remarkable work of The Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, an avid supporter of TFA. Katherine and David Bradley, Kristin Ehrgood, Monica Moore Thompson and John Thompson III, and Christie and Jeff Weiss chaired event.
Teach For America recruits recent college grads and trains them to thrive as teachers (also known as corps members) in underprivileged communities around the country. (To learn more about TFA visit www.teachforamerica.org.)
